Mona B up-cycled bags
Eco-Chic goes fashion forward with Necessities for the Heart’s line of Mona B hip up-cycled bags.
These bags, which range in sizes from small carry bags to totes, are made from up-cycled truck tarps, military tents and canvas. They are then decorated with chic motifs and trimmed with genuine leather, antique metal hardware and lined with cotton for a finished look. The bags (both large and small) nicely mix and match allowing you to create your own style.
Prices range from $19.00-$70.00.
We're all familiar with recycling, which turns waste into re-usable materials. Aluminum cans are melted down and become more cans or brushed aluminum pens. Old tires are shredded and melted and become foam packing peanuts. But upcycling is very different. Upcycling takes discarded materials and repurposes them into something more than the original. In Historic Preservation, this concept is also known as “adaptive reuse.”
The term upcycling dates back to 1994, so it is not new, but applying it to fashion is. Necessities for the Heart owner Georgette Keenan is very excited about it. "This is the hot new thing. It's really wonderful," she explained.
Find out how you can be fashionable and upcycle at Necessities for the Heart in Bordentown at 204 Farnsworth Avenue and in Allentown at 28 South Main Street.
